About

Climate Adaptation conferences

The Climate Adaptation conference series has been running since 2010, and is an annual to biennial event held in Australia.
The conferences are an initiative of the National Climate Change Adaptation Research Facility (NCCARF), and have been hosted by either NCCARF alone, or through the partnership of NCCARF and CSIRO.

Our focus

Our conferences focus on the information needed to ensure Australia is adapting well to climate change. We attract international speakers and delegates each year, as well as Australian professionals far and wide. The conferences bring together researchers, practitioners and decision makers to share knowledge and research approaches that inform policy and practice in planning for climate change.

The experience

Delegates & speakers

We usually host about 500 delegates, with over 250 speakers. People come from around Australia and overseas, including many of the Pacific Island nations. Climate change adaptation is a topic addressed by a wide variety of disciplines, and our delegates feel a great sense of connection when they attend and meet the diverse ‘adaptation’ community.

Program

We offer a variety of presentation styles and formats to share our knowledge and facilitate discussions. From plenary presentations, through to short & sweet ‘speedtalks’, posters and lunchtime workshops, there’s something for everyone.

Networking and social events

Our conferences are launched the evening before proceedings begin, over drinks and canapes – a great chance to reconnect with acquaintances and meet your fellow delegates. Throughout the conference, we make sure you get enough time to form connections in the adaptation community. We’re famous for our long casual lunches in the poster and exhibition area, which delegates love. Designated poster sessions, held in the evening over drinks and nibbles, are a great chance to meet people in your field of research and practice. We always host a fantastic conference dinner event, where we also present the NCCARF Climate Adaptation Champions awards!
